Inevitability
Thursday, July 8th, 2010This article says eastern nations must massively increase their food production to avoid widespread hunger in the next generation.
What it does not say is that only “factory farming” can meet this challenge.
That is, use of massive machinery (combines, harvesters, sorters, packagers, etc.) and heavy use of chemical fertilizers will enable the rapid and massive increase described.
And distribution will require fleets of internal combustion powered vehicles… or electrically powered vehicles that will consume power provided by many, many new coal fired (as now in China) or nuclear power generation facilities.
Once again, irrationality is leading us full tilt into catastrophe … either of famines, or of claimed environmental impacts.
China’s forced limitation of family size is looking as cruel as ever … but also may be the only way to avoid mass starvation or worse.
